What To Watch: 06/22/2021

While nothing major drops today on TV or streaming, there’s a lot of fun, small stuff–including cool musical documentaries and unlikely game show reboots!

KATHERINE’S PICK:
This Is Pop [Netflix]
This docu-series charts (ha) the 70+ year history of pop music with interviews and old footage. Topics include auto-tune and boy bands!

JASON’S PICK:
College Bowl [NBC, 10p]
In the slow march to make every Hall of Fame QB a game show host, Peyton Manning takes over the new version of this ancient game that tests the trivia knowledge of teams from various Universities.

BRAD’S PICK:
Superman & Lois [The CW, 9p]
The word of the day is “startling discoveries” and Clark Kent is not immune as we have just four episodes left in an excellent first season.

BUT, WAIT, THERE’S MORE:

  • Witches in the Army is at the heart of the Freeform series Motherland: Fort Salem which starts off with a “new threat from an ancient enemy” in its second season, which starts tonight.
  • FLASH! Ooohaaaah! Real world problems slip in as Greylock’s power is turned off on tonight’s episode of The CW’s The Flash. Expect the action and excitement of forms being filled in in triplicate (but very, very speedily).
  • Food Network has really pumped up their game in the show naming department with today’s spinoff of one of its tentpoles going with the name Chopped: Alton’s Maniacal Baskets.
  • On OWN’s David Makes Man‘s second season, our titular hero has grown six years to age 20, still haunted by the original incident. Phylicia Rashad co-stars.
