We’re back on a day of busy TV–both streaming and traditional. We’ve got the return of two underrated television shows, both of which likely to show up on our 2022 Top 20 shows (watch the skies… or better yet, this site). There’s a third show … Continue reading What To Watch: 01/05/2022
At the top of the Tuesday streaming menu we have a diver who loves to push the limits of her (and human) endurance, and a reunion that will make some former and current theater kids become very obnoxious–even more so.
KATHERINE’S PICK: Hold Your Breath: The Ice Dive [Netflix] This beautifully shot documentary follows free diver Johanna Nordblad as she trains to break the world record for distance traveled under ice with one breath.
JASON’S PICK: Spring Awakening: Those You’ve Known [HBO, 9p] One of the best musicals of the 21st Century–although the play it’s based on was written at the tail end of the 19th–is revealed for those who never made it to theater, and relived for those of us who did. The original cast returns, including Jonathan Groff and Lea Michele. And it’s cable, so they won’t even have to bleep out the coming-of-age rock musical’s showstopper “Totally Fucked.”
BRAD’S PICK: Mayans MC [FX, 10p] There has been a lot of strife in the titular motorcycle club lately. You could almost call it a civil war. This week’s episode even more internal struggles bring further conflict. At the end of the day though, I just hope EZ takes good care of that dog.
BUT, WAIT, THERE’S MORE:

ABC is airing a line-up of returning oddball game shows. In alpha order, we see The Chase, the golf-themed Holey Moley and the new kid on the block, Who Do You Believe? In that last one, it’s the home audience who is the contestant as in this true-crime hybrid, a true story is revealed with many possible villains and scenarios, and you get to figure out whodunnit and which one is what actually happened.
Speaking of true crime, the neverending saga of a haunted Utah tract of land gets a new chapter with the latest season of History Channel’s The Secret of Skinwalker Ranch.
In a rare move, we’re leaning with CBS. Are we getting old? We’ve also got a rom-com and Hulu’s investigation of the mostly unpunished treason that happened 364 days ago. Madenningly, neither its producers at ABC News nor Hulu are really promoting it. The world … Continue reading What To Watch: 01/05/2021
Gather round scholars and we’ll tell you tales of kings and birds, bards and dancers, voguers and zombies, all working together to make your Sunday viewing spectacular–or at least lightly enjoyable. After yesterday’s semi-scheduled coup by a red-hatted army of assholes goaded on by our dumbest President in history, it’s refreshing to watch a businessman turned political leader whose follies we can laugh at–and that he’s played by outspoken Trump critic and all-around delight Ted Danson. … Continue reading What To Watch: 01/07/2021
