Tonight, the Democrats make history tonight as they nominate Hillary Clinton as the first female candidate fielded by a major candidate – in response to the Republicans groundbreaking pick of our first half-Cheetos candidate. If politics is not your cup of tea, or you want escape, or to fill up your DVR, here’s some other options.

MadTV [The CW, 9p]
After reigning on late night for 14 years on Fox, the beloved sketch-comedy series is getting a reboot on a new channel with a new timeslot. This year’s cast features Carlie Craig, Chelsea Davison, Jeremy D. Howard, Amir K, Lyric Lewis, Piotr Michael, Michelle Ortiz, and Adam Ray, with special guest appearances from former cast members sprinkled in all season.

Dead of Summer  [Freeform, 9p]
This week on Dead of Summer we explore Joel’s background in flashbacks and the counselors take the kids on an overnight trip deep into the woods. As that helicopter pilot on The Simpsons noted, what could possibly go wrong?

Unearthed [Science, 10p]
Tonight’s episode examines the Acropolis, the UNESCO World Heritage Site and tourist trap of Athens, Greece. See how it was built, and why it still stands, despite being in ruins.

  • The heist looms large over Animal Kingdom, the new TNT series based on the Aussie cult gangster movie, as we’re more than halfway through the season.
  • It’s the men’s turn to respond on The Bachelorette: The Men Tell All on ABC. We want to know more about what’s up with that Santa Claus guy.
  • Highlights of tonight’s Zoo includes a trip to a Portuguese venom salesman and the delightful episode title “Sex. Lies, and Jellyfish.”
  • For what started out as a basic Lost spoof, TBS’ Wrecked has gone into some dark territory. Last week featured an outbreak of Red Death and a trial over an accidental shooting (sidebar: gotta hand it to an almost-decade late parody to hew so close to the source material). This week promises adventure.
  • There’s a special Olympics 2016 episode of HBO’s in-depth sports juggernaut Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel, tonight.
  • One of the coolest lines of the new Ghostbusters came from the surprising source of Andy Garcia as NYC’s mayor: “Don’t EVER compare me to the mayor in Jaws.” The classic shark vs. man original airs on AMC tonight at 8p.
  • As for the classic undead shark vs. man flick, Zombie Shark, pops up on Syfy (where else) tonight.
  • Man, R.I.P.D., you should have been much better – or even good. But if you want to give it a ride anyway, it’s on FXM at 8p.

What to Watch: 07/25/2016

We don’t mean to get political, but we think Hillary Clinton applauding a cupcake while Rashida Jones looks on with a “wtf” expression sums up today. The Democrats really need a good night tonight, and there’s that nice older man who charms birds set to come to the rescue tonight. It’s also Monday, and that means time for the best fictional reality show drama this side of Family Matters. And if the real world or the UnREAL world are too much for you, we’ve got cupcakes and silly cops.

Democratic National Convention [Many Channels, 7p]
So, President Biff From Back to the Future II (look it up if you don’t believe me) has had his festival, or whatever that was. Now, amid what’s undeniably a bit of a mess, it’s time for Bernie Sanders to play the opening act and save the day with the speech of unity I so know he will bring. Also, Michelle Obama’s words spoken by an actual, real life Michelle Obama.

Angie Tribeca [TBS, 9p]
Let’s see what silliness ensues when Tribeca and Geils set off to investigate the death of Coast Guard member.

Cupcake Wars [Food, 8p]
Last week I was all about Cupcake Wars because it had TWO Olympians AND LAMORNE MORRIS. I can hardly handle the anticipation for tonight’s episode, which forces comedian Ron Funches to bake for the Josie and the Pussycats theme.

What to Watch: 05/23/2016

There’s so many finales to select from today, it’s making us a tad bit queasy. Therefore, we figured we’d take a sick day, and watch people excitedly bidding on windex bottles, cream of wheat, aaaaand a braaaand new car! Hopefully Aaron Paul drops by to reprise his earlier role. Oh wait, it’s a Survivor tie-in. Still, more Aaron Paul!

The Price is Right: Survivor Primetime Edition [CBS, 8p]
CBS, are you out of ideas? Because I have some, and my screenwriting is…not bad. Pairing Survivor superfans with Survivor’s former castaways (and later cast members of Amazing Race and Big Brother) to play The Price Is Right feels a little forced.

The Price is Right: Survivor Primetime Edition [CBS, 8p]
Tuning in for a special primetime edition of the show that helped me be a better grocery shopper.

The Price is Right: Survivor Primetime Edition [CBS, 8p]
I could not care less about Survivor, but this is not a bad comment, and they should be some bad-ass Plinko players, so here we are. Even money on someone painting a bare chest with something like “Rockin’ Cleveland For Drew.”

  •  Blindspot ends its first season (on NBC) with an episode which sees the team turning to a familiar face to try and solve its central mystery
  • FOX’s Gotham wraps up a troubled, wrathful season with a prison break.
  • Internet dating closes the second season of CBS’ quietly surviving The Odd Couple.
  • Sam Bee took on SuperPACs last week on her TBS program — this week, it’s vaping.
  • UnREAL, a look behind the scenes of a fictional reality dating show, was quietly one of the best shows on television. Tonight on Lifetime, a preview of Season 2.
