JASON’S PICK:
Unstable [Netflix]
The press for this show refers to Rob Lowe’s scientist character with the cumulative adjectives “admired, eccentric, narcissist-adjacent.” They are all terms that have certainly been hurled at the actor himself. There was always a bit of Rob Lowe in Chris Traeger so it’s literally hard not to hear his character add “literally” to every sentence as Ellis Dragon–who would appear to be an Elon Musk-type, only less icky. He also is performing with his son, playing… his son. This one could really go either way, but its trailer gets me a little excited.
BRAD’S PICK:
Ghosts [CBS, 8:30p]
Nigel tries to blackmail Hetty and Alberta gets a visit from a living relative who wants to know more about her. This remake, like its British antecedent, is smarter than you might expect and has a following. It’s the little sitcom that could, and does. Which is why it was on our Top 20 last year.
BUT, WAIT, THERE’S MORE:

- “Based on the popular Spotify playlist” is a new one for us, but Rap Caviar Presents looks like a hearty watch for Hip-Hop heads both young and old. The Hulu series combines music and activism, examining the world and its issues through the lens of rap music.
- Margaret Cho as an adult presence in a Disney rom-com? We’ll sign up to watch that sight unseen. Prom Pact hits a lot of the familiar beats (nerdy girl, crush on athlete, soaring music). It’s on Disney+. We’re sure you figured that out, however.
- After a few new series with gaudy production values and larger-than-usual promotional campaigns, Investigation Discovery seems to have gone back to its lo-fi roots as there’s not much to find on Lone Star Murders. Although we all can crack the code pretty easily as to what it’s about.

- The inspirational rom-com/coming-of-age film From Me to You comes from the combined forces of TV Tokyo and Netflix (and of course is on the latter here in the U.S.). It’s about a shy girl who is shunned by her classmates, but who becomes the object of a new boy’s affection.
- When not giving out awards, CMT is all about the profiles, and today is no exception as they debut CMT Defining Carly Pearce. We’re not sure who she is, but if you know and want to find out more about her, you know where to go.
- There’s worse animated franchises than the DreamWorks one about the cavemen. The Croods: Family Tree, on both Hulu and Peacock, started in 2021 and its sixth season starts today. The seasons pass so fast these days.
- Our Lifetime movie du jour (from the LMN subsidiary) is Rooming with Danger. The Single White Female-esque flick surely serves up the thrills in the manner only Lifetime can.
- Wolf gang, golf wang…
