It’s undeniably a slow January Monday, but if you like offbeat and off the beaten path, especially animated or anime, you’ve got a bunch of options.

BRAD’S PICK:
Koala Man [Hulu]
Spider-Man? Bah! That’s so so 2000 and late. Make way for Koala Man, a family man who leads a “not so secret” life, and for some reason he likes to stop petty crime. In case you didn’t already guess, the animators are from the Adult Swim world.
JASON’S PICK:
Detectorists [Acorn]
After about five years, Andy and Lance (show creator MacKenzie Crook and Toby Jones, respectfully) return with their metal detectors for more critically-acclaimed shenanigans on a 2022 Christmas special that just hit Acorn today.
BUT, WAIT, THERE’S MORE:

- And the rest is anime as Crunchyroll contunues to build its arsenal in the wake of its merger with Funimation under Sony. The primary new release is the second season of Vinland Saga. Based on a 2005 manga, the fictionalized tale of 11th Century Viking Thorfinn (not to be confused with the Ghosts character) also appears streaming on Netflix. Also returning is The Vampire Dies in No Time, also based on an ’00s manga and coming back for a second season and creates its own mythology around the bloodsucking freaks. New shows on Crunchyroll today include Ayakasji Triangle, Malevolent Spirits:Mononogatori, and Reborn to Master the Blade: From Hero-King to Extraordinary Squire.
