What To Watch: 08/14/2022

While for the most part it’s an average, ordinary Sunday with new episodes of prestige cable shows, it’s an exciting day for fans of the universe of walkers and scavengers, TWD, as a new anthology adds to the mythology. It’s not the only expanded universe with new content tonight as one of 50 Cent’s crime drama’s spinoffs returns for a second season.

Tales of the Walking Dead [AMC, 9p]
It’s yet another Walking Dead spin off. i may be the only person still excited by this world, but i’m here for this anthology. Only six episodes, this could be the fresh blood the franchise needs. In these episodes, we will get more on the origin of Alpha along with Terry Crews as Joe. Terry vs zombies? Of course i’m there.

Who Killed Biggie and Tupac? [ID, 9p]
Ok, so Investigation Discovery is not about to solve hip-hop’s greatest mysteries, but it’s always interesting to look back at the history of two of the greatest rappers of the 1990s, and to speculate on how they met their tragic ends. And sometimes even IF they really met their tragic ends.

  • Figuring out the relationships between shows in the Power universe is kind of like trying to divine the numerical values of distant cousins. Power III: Raising Kanan comes back for a second season of the origin story of Kanan Stark. We’re pretty ignorant of the mythology of 50 Cent’s criminal underworld, but we do know this show has the awesomely named Laverne “Jukebox” Thomas.
  • If you’re looking for confusion in your life, you are probably a fan of Westworld on HBO. The perplexing, but sometimes satisfying tale of virtual time travel, obscene touristry, and AI gone awry finishes up its fourth season tonight. The title takes its name from the so often creepily re-purposed 1956 hit single about lassiez-faire living by Doris Day, “Que Sera Sera.”
  • There’s new episodes of The Chi and City on a Hill on Showtime, of Animal Kingdom on TNT, and of Love Life on TBS.
  • The LHV (Lifetime-Hallmark Vortex) is crowded tonight with four new movies. On honorary network Up, we’ve got Love, Game, Match. Hallmark brings us Chesapeake Shores. Hallmark Movie Network offers the oddly uplifting sounding mystery The Journey Ahead. Finally, on Lifetime, they are showing off their sinister side with Sister with a Secret.
