What To Watch: 08/01/2022

This could be the day… Vince Gilligan has tricked us before, but today’s episode title for Better Call Saul is “Breaking Bad” so there’s a good shot we see the pair of cameos we’ve been promised… or maybe not. And in our featured recommendation, we have one of the newer shows about rich people in the wild.

JASON’S PICK:
Industry [HBO]
Somewhere between The Good Wife and Billions lies this British series set in the world of investment banking. The expansive young cast is joined this season by character actors like Jay Duplass and Adam Levy.

KATHERINE’S PICK:
The Fast History of… [History, 10p]
Tonight’s half-hour covers the thrilling and surprising history of amusement parks, which date back to the 1100s.

BRAD’S PICK:
Better Call Saul [AMC, 9p]
One of the greatest spinoffs of all time is heading toward its series finale. And we are still waiting for the cameos by Walter White and Jesse Pinkman. Tonight’s episode IS called “Breaking Bad” so this could be the moment we have been waiting for… or could it be another trick like last week’s “a new player enters the game.” Very rarely does a spin off show reach the peaks of the show that spawned it. This one is an exception. But if you are reading this you already know.

BUT, WAIT, THERE’S MORE:

  • It’s 24 set in Japan, but with three times more time to thwart the terrorist attack on Tokyo (and, no, it’s not 72 episodes). Game of Spy debuts on Amazon Prime today.
  • Snake in the Grass has a fairly familiar idea. Four strangers work together to win 100k; however, one of the four contestants is secretly sabotaging the group’s efforts. The reality competition starts tonight on USA.
  • HGTV adds two home makeovers to the schedule with the returning Inside Out and the new Flip to a Million.
  • The ’90s were a great time for music, and sadly enough, crime as well. Investigation Discovery debuts People Magazine Presents: Crimes of the ’90s.
