Given some of the recent course of human events, we’re not overly excited about this year’s July 4th. Maybe wake us up at the Semiquincentennial–especially if Trump, Republicans & Co haven’t dismantled the government. That said, sometimes we’re suckers for those colorful explosions (although Jason’s cat Bonkers would not agree).

BRAD’S PICK:
Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular [NBC, 8p]
Given where the country is at this moment I’d say there aren’t least a million things I’d rather watch than Macy’s fireworks, but while you watch maybe you can organize a protest, give to good causes and help America live up to its values and maybe we can start to turn this ship of state around.

BUT, WAIT, THERE’S MORE:

• Well, not much more really. And it’s all patriotics. However, if you are going to celebrate aspects about the country right now, amber waves of grain and purple mountains’ majesty might be the angle to go. Disney+’s America the Beautiful celebrates the natural glories of our country.
• If you’re feeling a little bit country (and less rock&roll), there’s the CMT Let Freedom Sing! Music City July 4. It promises to be everything you expect.
