Gerard Way is having a terrific June as his universally critically beloved new single with his band My Chemical Romance zooming up the charts and the third season of his supernatural series based on his set of graphic novels hits the air. Meanwhile, on vastly opposing poles of the spectrum, a documentary looks at some of the hidden costs of one of the worst disasters in history and the forgotten comedy of the Watiti-verse returns for a new season.

BRAD’S PICK:
The Umbrella Academy [Netflix]
This fun show returns for season 3!!! We’ve got alternate timelines and even alternate versions of our heroes. judging by the trailer it looks like this season is even more over the top than the last! You know you’re just as excited as i am!
JASON’S PICK:
Chernobyl: The Lost Tapes [HBO, 9p]
As a kid, when the story of the Chernobyl Nuclear Plant disaster trickled out of the USSR, I was horrified, but as the news was censored, while we always suspected just how gruesomely destructive the accident was, we never saw the true extent. We have since seen just how devastating the explosion was, and this doc goes as far as any investigator has gone into what happened there in 1986.
BUT, WAIT, THERE’S MORE:

- The world’s most ridiculous paranormal investigators, Minogue and O’Leary, return to the hunt for New Zealand’s most Scooby-Doo-esque monsters. The CW’s Wellington Paranormal is from the mind of Taika Watiti from whence sprung some of the grandest comedy designs of the past decade and if you haven’t watched the earlier seasons, you can catch up pretty quick.
- Not to be confused with a certain animated movie franchise with an unfortunate one-time lead voice, The Hidden Lives of Pets is a reality show which aims to show you what your cats and dogs are really doing when you leave the house. It’s on Netflix.
- We’re not huge fans of the other debuting Netflix reality show’s title Snowflake Mountain. You can probably guess its premise–a bunch of young people who have lived much of their lives in a self-centered bubble are put in a room and stop being friends and start getting real… maybe?
