There’s a lot of chances there will be ziplining in tonight’s new content. Hey, perhaps even the German comedian celebrating the holiday with standup will take a break to run a cord to an adjacent building and repel herself to a second location. Ok, it’s unlikely and hopefully not, but you never do know in Peak TV.

KATHERINE’S PICK:
Carolin Kebekus: The Last Christmas Special [Netflix]
Netflix Germany’s first Christmas stand-up special (an auspicious honor?) features one of the country’s biggest comedians, Carolin Krebkus, who has a lot to stay about holiday nostalgia while remaining, um, edgy and challenging. (I mean, it was filmed in a church!)
JASON’S PICK:
Welcome To Earth [Disney+]
Will Smith went pretty quick from Philly kid to one of rap’s early success stories to lead actor on a hit TV series to Hollywood A-lister too fast to have actual adventures himself. At 53, still a viable star, Smith has some access to embark on the adventures he has pretended to experience on screen, while also making it into its own event by bringing a camera crew along. Will watching Smith climb actual mountains and dive in actual lakes–while likely never in any actual danger–be an interesting watch. It’s worth one shot anyway.
FIONA’S PICK:
The Challenge [MTV, 8p]
TJ has one more twist in store as the challengers battle it out for a spot in the final. In an extra elimination round that none of them have prepared for, two more agents will be deactivated before they leave the lair.
BUT, WAIT, THERE’S MORE:

- While we love Ted Lasso here at Screen Scholars HQ (and it’s got a shot at the top spot in our Top 30, coming out Mon 12/20), outside of a few John Oliver deep dives and attempts to learn around World Cup time, we are pretty clueless when it comes to the world’s interlocking leagues of soccer/football teams, so excuse us for not knowing the significance of FC Bayern and that they are apparently legendary as the Amazon Prime series FC Bayern–Behind the Legend would imply. If you do know the vast reach of the German juggernaut(?) and/or would like to know about it, we’re sure it DOES interest you.
- TLC gets into the Christmas spirit in its own way with Dr. Pimple Popper: A Pimple Carol which to us does not work as an idea or a pun, but in the spirit of the holiday, we include it.
- Dean Cain hopefully teams up with Laura McKenzie to take a CW tour of yuletide celebrations around the globe in the yearly special Christmas Around the World. Just hope no one asks him about vaccines or tries to wish him a “happy holidays” as, yes, Cain is one of those.
- We’re hoping that maybe Lifetime’s Christmas with a Crown is the perfect prequel to get out our Matisyahu-themed holiday movie Channukah without a Crown (the network is overdue to release a movie about the holiday that’s not sneakily a Christmas movie), but alas it’s just another busy businesswoman meets secret prince while back in her hometown to celebrate the holidays.
