What To Watch: 11/03/2021

A former “parasite” turns mad scientist, scammers target climate change, MTV reality stars continue their epic 20+-year battle, and a superstar named Idris is bringing Western back. The bigger they are….

KATHERINE’S PICK:
The Harder They Fall [Netflix]
This Western stars Jonathan Majors, Idris Elba, Regina King, problematic but talented LaKeith Stanfield, Delroy Lindo, and Zazie Beetz. The drama follows a gang in the West, and though the story is fictional, the all-Black cast is based on historical figures.

JASON’S PICK:
Dr. Brain [Apple TV]
This psychological sci-fi thriller comes from South Korea and stars Lee Sun-kyun, best known as the patriarch of the doomed family from the country’s lone Oscar winning film, Parasite. This one is an adaptation of a webloon (I feel old) about a neuroscientist who attempts to solve the eternal mystery of extracting memories to solve his personal mystery of the murder of her family.

FIONA’S PICK:
The Challenge [MTV, 8p]
Last week the Emerald team continued their winning streak and dominated in the daily challenge. After some serious politicking, Emy and Bettina ended up on the elimination floor. Emy pulled out the win and kept her promise not to infiltrate Emerald, choosing instead to follow “Uncle CT” over to Sapphire and bumping Amanda over to Ruby. Sapphire is now the smallest team with only four players, but with some of the strongest players on their team, being small and mighty might not be a disadvantage.

BUT, WAIT, THERE’S MORE:

  • The French documentary Lords of Scam tells the main part of the plot in its title. Its three con men chose an unlikely target in climate change adaption, making millions off fake carbon offsets before jealousy ripped the trio apart. It’s on Netflix.
  • If you were told there’s a Smithsonian Channel show called Wild Tales From the Farm, you might not guess that it’s a reality show closer to the Kardashians than…
  • Property Brothers for which the HGTV spinoff Property Brothers: Forever Home returns tonight.
