Unlikely friendships and amateur sleuths are themes that pop up more than once in tonight’s TV landscape. The two elements collide in the finale of one of the most delightful and refreshing new comedies/detective stories of the year (from the mind of a comic genius who has been in the biz for over half a century). The mystery of who killed Tim Kono is presumably answered today. We also meet a fictional ’90s hip-hop group whose members are portrayed by musical legends like Brandy and Eve.

KATHERINE’S PICK:
Queens [ABC, 10p]
This series “follows four women in their 40s who reunite for a chance to recapture their fame and regain the swagger they had in the ’90s when they were legends in the hip-hop world.” It stars Eve, Naturi Naughton, Nadine Velazquez and Brandy, so I have some trouble with the idea that these women ever lost their swagger–even in a scripted series. Should be fun, though!
FIONA’S PICK:
Only Murders in the Building [Hulu]
Last week we ended with a dramatic reveal about Brazzo’s girlfriend, Jan. Not only is she not a first chair bassoonist, but she is now a likely suspect in the murder of Tim Kono! Why else would he have a bassoon cleaning instrument in his apartment? This does not answer why Jan got stabbed or why Howard’s cat was poisoned. I’m glad we already got the greenlight for season two because I think this finale is going to leave some unanswered questions.
JASON’S PICK:
Theo Von: Regular People [Netflix]
While I’m not a fan of most of the comedy circle Von hangs out with, especially that one part-time MMA-fighter, conspiracy theory spreader ex-The Man Show host. However, Von has just the right balance of swagger and self-deprecation that makes him such a fantastic storyteller. His first Netflix showcase drops today.
BRAD’S PICK:
Stargirl [The CW, 8p]
The battle against Eclipso continues and our friends in the new JSA must decide what to do next. This all gets more tricky when Courtney’s life is held in the balance after a dangerous encounter. This season has been dark so far. And that’s a good thing.
BUT, WAIT, THERE’S MORE:

- If you’re sad about the ending of Steve Martin’s quirky amateurs-solving-crime show and don’t mind English subtitles, the Polish light thriller In for a Murder could possibly suffice as a woman in a small town finds a web of series when she tries to solve a local murder.
- It’s the superhero girls’ night out on The CW as along with a new episode of Stargirl, we get another offering of Supergirl as our heroine’s alter ego is pulled between success at her day job and a monster’s attack of the city.
- Michelle Young takes the helm of handing out roses as we get a first look at the latest season of ABC’s moneymaker The Bachelorette.
- Horror queens assemble as Shudder unveils its fourth season of The Boulet Brothers’ Dragula, the chance for gothic drag to shine.
