What To Watch: 10/11/2021

It’s no secret that we are stock full of Rupaul’s Drag Race fans at Screen Scholars, so when three of the most fun queens return in their underappreciated (so far) spinoff series, we’re there for it and it’s all we can talk about (or at least choose for our daily recommendations!).

KATHERINE’S PICK:
We’re Here [HBO]
Bob the Drag Queen, Eureka O’Hara, and Shangela are back to spread love, joy, and acceptance in smalltown America, week-after-week. (And it’s no coincidence that season two premieres on National Coming Out Day.)

FIONA’S PICK:
We’re Here [HBO]
Bob, Eureka and Shangela are back for season two as they travel around small town America adopting drag daughters and putting on stunning one night only performances.

JASON’S PICK:
We’re Here [HBO]
In a world of Squid Games, Trumps, and Vanderpumps, it’s nice to see this sort of positivity spreading program featuring three of the most endearing drag queens out there put into the universe. OK, Eureka can be a lot at times, but the point still stands.

BUT, WAIT, THERE’S MORE:

  • The second season of the second attempt to put the classic pre-teen book series The Baby-Sitters Club on TV debuts tonight on Netflix. If this sort of show is your bag–or your kids’ bag–we will say, critics have been mostly kind to it.
  • South Korea strikes again, but this time it’s the classic gender-hiding trope presented with a rom-com/period piece vibe as in The King’s Affection, the crown prince’s female twin poses keeps her identity a secret as she poses as her late brother while trying to hide her true love. It’s Netflix again!
  • The rest of the new and returning (all returning actually) are all from the how-to/reality field, including The Family Chantel on TLC, Street Outlaws: No Prep Kings on Discovery, and Love It or List It on HGTV.
