What To Watch: 08/05/2021

Like Kenneth the Page, we HEART the Peacock (and btw, please go vote for–or against–his show in our tournament). And this week it really shows as 2/3 of our recommendations come from NBC’s Peacock streaming service. The other is from CBS’ streaming arm, Paramount+.

BRAD’S PICK:
Hart to Heart [Peacock]
Peacock flies a little under my lot the radar in the streaming service platform wars, but thanks to shows like the new Kevin Hart talk show that may change. Hart sits down with fellow a listers and shares a glass of wine and a conversation. Sounds like a podcast? Maybe, but it IS indeed a TV show.

JASON’S PICK:
Departure [Peacock]
You’ll always pique my interest with a plane crash mystery (and I’m overjoyed at Manifest‘s apparent return from the ranks of the cancelled). However, if you add The Good Wife‘s fantastic Archie Panjabi and one of the last appearances of global treasure Christopher Plummer–who died earlier this year–you’ll bet I’m there, even if I missed the first season. Oh, I’ll catch up by tonight’s second season premiere.

FIONA’S PICK:
RuPaul’s Drag Race All-Stars 6 [Paramount+]
Last week we said goodbye to Jan after lipsync assassin Alexis Mateo announced that the group decision was a tie and the final vote was down to challenge winner Trinity K Bonet. But! Jan is not gone yet (and neither are any of the queens who have left so far?). I am tired of hearing about this twist and would like to see it in action now please.

BUT, WAIT, THERE’S MORE:

  • Shudder premieres a haunting looking werewolf movie from France tonight. It’s called Teddy and it earned a sizable buzz at Cannes.
  • We’ve got a different sort of thrill for a different audience as Lifetime is offering Deadly Mom Retreat, a title we find wonderful with either definition of the word–is it about murderous matriarchs at a planned rural camp gathering or are the mothers backing down from a wartime battle? We guess we’ll never know. Unless we click on the link.
