What To Watch: 06/07/2021

It’s a Monday of intrigue–at least as far as new television is involved. We have the umpteenth season of the show which will eventually be used to decide our next POTUS (spoiler alert!). It’s also the first night of a Monica-hosted crime show and it this case, she does get down… to spilling the tea about celebrity world crimes (maybe she’ll even settle some long-outstanding boy distribution questions?). Meanwhile the UK sends us the most fashionable detective whose aunt is also a detective from their land.

FIONA’S PICK:
The Bachelorette [ABC, 8p]
Katie’s journey to find love begins tonight! After relieving Chris Harrison of his hosting duties, former Bachelorettes Kaitlyn Bristow and Taysha Adams will be co-hosting. I am very curious to see how this shifts the dynamic of the show!

KATHERINE’S PICK:
Infamy: When Fame Turns Deadly [VH1, 10p]
Singer and actress Monica hosts what appears to be a prolonged (and trashy-ish) E: True Hollywood-esque series on the pitfalls of fame: murder. Cases include Lorenzen Wright and Young Greatness.

JASON’S PICK:
Ms. Fisher’s Modern Murder Mysteries [Acorn]
This is the third season of the spry little spin-off takes the Phryneaverse into the swinging 1960s. Peregrine Fisher (Geraldine Hakewill) solves crimes in a more mod setting and beyond just showcasing some fun fashion, it’s quite the well-written Brit mystery.

BUT, WAIT, THERE’S MORE:

  • VH1’s other return of the day comes in the form of Cartel Crew–a Real Housewives or Jersey Shore but for people who are connected to the Mexican crime syndicates. Its third season begins today and we feel covered in a goo-like slime for featuring it.
  • For why this show might be considered a wee bit tacky, CNBC’s American Greed returns for a new seasons and it would seem tonight’s topic would be the shattered lives El Chapo leaves in his wake.
  • Let’s palate cleanse a bit; there’s a new episode of Duncanville on Fox today called “Sibling Revelry.” The animated show achieves a satisfying balance of relatable characters and absurd whimsy and can be quite addictive, so check it out and if you like it, the first season and this season’s other three episodes are available for binge on Hulu.
