What To Watch: 10/13/2019

Not much debuting — save a fun Lifetime flick (see below) — but HBO’s 1%er version of Survivor shuts its doors for its second season with the possible betrayal of one of the main characters on the menu.

JASON’S PICK:
Succession [HBO, 9p]
Who will Daddy kiss? In the penultimate episode, Daddy Roy demanded a “blood sacrifice” to save the business and the family. The obvs choices would be poor oblivious Tom, and they’ve seemingly been telegraphing his demise all season and while he’s affable, he’s also hella guilty — but is the show gonna go obvious. And Logan was very eager to throw Kendall under the bus while testifying, sooo…

KATHERINE’S PICK:
Killer Contractor [Lifetime, 8p]
A woman brings her daughter to her late father’s estate, only to find that the contractor (and who hired this guy, anyway?) “brings with him a series of lethal mishaps and shattering secrets.” Sell that old shack as is!

BRAD’S PICK:
The Walking Dead [AMC, 9p]
We were treated to an expertly shot, but mostly Alpha-less season premiere. Hopefully this weeks episode of the premier zombie show will give more insight into the series most compelling villain to date.

  • It’s a big night for cable shows about grifting white people as many stories should come to a head as its a FAM jam — a 37th anniversary celebration for the fictional MLM organization in the middle of Showtime’s On Becoming A God In Central Florida.
  • Staying on Showtime: have you heard about what’s been going on in the world of The Affair? We don’t want to spoil it, but the fifth season has gone in a very unexpected direction. You might want to catch back up, if like us, you tuned out of the Rashomon-y chronicling of multiple loves gone awry.
  • The latest look back into the early history of that supposed fad that’s now been ruling radio for over three decades comes from AMC in the in-depth form of Hip-Hop: The Songs That Shook America, debuting tonight.
  • Perfectly timed for an age when even our President is stoking the flames of racism and anger, Why We Hate is a six-part docu-series on Discovery that tries to get to the bottom of our country and the world’s greatest poison.
