Box Office Weekend: Friday, October 4, 2019

Joker is out today. It’s sure to dominate the box office this weekend, but it seems worth mentioning that the film, which borrows perhaps too heavily from Taxi Driver (it’s so hard to be a toxic man in this world!) has the police on high alert across the country. Vulture has an excellent assessment; I recommend reading it and seeing Pain and Glory.

Wrinkles the Clown is a “documentary comedy horror.” For “a few hundred dollars” a man in Naples will dress like a clown and scare your party guests.

Pain and Glory, Pedro Almodóvar’s latest, stars Antonio Banderas as an artist at the decline of his career, involuntarily reflecting on his past. The reviews are very, very good.

Lucy In The Sky, the reason I’m still waiting for the fourth season of Fargo (well, maybe) is Noah Hawley’s first film. It stars Natalie Portman as a brilliant yet tortured woman; the story is inspired by the downward spiral of Lisa Nowak.

Dilili In Paris is a French animated film about a little girl investigating the disappearance of area children.

Joker, a standalone origin story of Batman’s foe, but only kinda, finally in theaters.

The Parts You Lose is a thriller starring Aaron Paul and Danny Murphy as a criminal on the lam and the deaf boy that befriends him.

Low Tide is a coming-of-age film about boys who find treasure on the Jersey Shore.

Battle of Jangsari is a depiction of the Battle of Incheon during the Korean War in 1950. Megan Fox stars.

My Soul to Keep is a horror film.

Coming to theaters Tuesday, October 8th, 2019

Little Monsters is a horror comedy. Lupita Nyong’o stars as a teacher trapped in a zombie invasion. It’s getting good reviews.
