Welcome to the end of May! We have a monster movie, thrillers, a lame Gen Y romantic comedy, and a moving foreign film. There’s not a lot that’s new this weekend, so let’s get right into it, already.
Godzilla: King of the Monsters is a sequel to the 2014 film Godzilla. The cast includes Kyle Chandler, Vera Farmiga, Millie Bobby Brown, Bradley Whitford, Sally Hawkins, Thomas Middleditch, O’Shea Jackson Jr., and Ken Watanabe. Now all the monsters are out and we’re in a lot of trouble. I haven’t seen a Godzilla film since the Matthew Broderick bomb over twenty years ago, but I kind of want to see this one! (And that film had a good soundtrack, OK?)
Rich Boy, Rich Girl: BLEEEEH.
Too Late to Die Young is a Chilean drama. Set in an intentional rural community in Chile in 1990, a young woman begins to navigate adolescence. Directed by Dominga Sotomayor Castillo.
Rocketman stars Taron Egerton as Elton John as he transforms from shy piano prodigy to international superstar.
Ma stars Octavia Spencer as a lonely woman who agrees to buy a bunch of teens booze. But Ma’s hospitality “soon curdles into obsession.”
