Box Office Weekend Friday, May 10th, 2019

This weekend brings us comedies, nature docs, biopics, and more.

Our Evil: “A man with spiritualist powers is told by his mentor that a demonic entity is returning to destroy his daughter’s soul, and that he should take drastic measures to prevent this from happening.”

Poms a group of women form a cheerleading team in a retirement community. Starring Diane Keaton, Jacki Weaver, Pam Grier, and Celia Weston. I’d totes see this.

The Serengeti Rules: “This science documentary explores how “keystone species” maintain the biodiversity of ecosystems in the Serengeti, the Aleutian Islands, the Pacific Northwest, and Peru.”

Tolkien is a biopic about the Lord of the Rings author. Starring Nicholas Hoult and Lily Collins. The reviews for this film are not good.

Charlie Says is a drama about the Manson girls. The reviews for this movie are even worse! The cast includes Matt Smith, Merrit Wever, Annabeth Gish, and Hannah Murray.

Student of the Year 2 is an Indian-language hindi teen drama (and the sequel to 2012’s Student of the Year). A love triangle forms between a rich girl, a “normal girl,” and a cute guy.

The Professor and the Madman is about the compiling of the Oxford English Dictionary. Unfortunately, the drama stars Mel Gibson and Sean Penn. Ew.

All Is True is a drama about Shakespeare. The Bard “is ruthlessly forced to examine his own failings as husband and father.” Cool. Starring Judi Dench, Ian McKellen, and Kenneth Branagh.

The Biggest Little Farm is a documentary about farming. It sounds like the worst (and I love farming!) but the reviews are good.

Detective Pikachu is, yep, a science fiction fantasy action film based on the (yep) 2016 videogame. Ryan Reynolds voices Detective Pikachu, which yep, is a Pokémon. Who solves mysteries. Bill Nighy and Chris Geere are in this for some reason.

The Hustle stars Anne Hathaway and Rebel Wilson as scam artists! I’m totally into it.

The Third Wife is an “audience-friendly” drama about a teenager who because the third wife to a wealthy landowner in rural 19th century Vietnam.
