What To Watch: 05/06/2019

We’ve got the best State of the Union we can hope for in these trying (moronic) times coming to streaming. ABC promises the best Bachelor ever (EVER!)! Meanwhile, HBO adds a new scripted series, on a Monday, no less.

JASON’S PICK:
State Of The Union [Sundance Now]
The team behind High Fidelity (author Nick Hornby and director Stephen Frears) have created this unique chronicle of a couple’s evolving marriage in the form of a collection of short films set in the 10 minutes the couple — excellent casting in Chris O’Dowd and Rosamund Pike — spends drinking at a pub before entering a counseling session. It was lauded at Cannes and appears online at Sundance today.

FIONA’S PICK:
The Bachelorette Reunion: The Biggest Bachelorette Reunion In Bachelor History Ever! [ABC, 8p]
Tune in as Chris Harrison visits iconic date spots and shares exclusive interviews from past Bachelorette contestants.

BRAD’S PICK:
Chernobyl [HBO, 9p]
HBO’s newest scripted series stars Emily Watson, Stellan Skarsgaard, and others, and digs into one of the biggest stories (and scares) of the 1980s — when the Chernobyl nuclear plant melted down.

ALSO ON TAP TONIGHT:

190506abyss

  • Adding to the long legacy of quirky Korean horror, Abyss tells the story of a man and woman who die, but resurrect in unfamiliar bodies, and now want to find the reason behind it all. There’s also some sort of weird orb bringing it all together.
  • It’s performance review time on DC’s Legends of Tomorrow — what rating system does one use for a group of time-traveling superheroes?
  • A surprisingly serious T.I. & Tiny: Friends & Family Hustle as some family is lost — T.I.’s sister Precious’ life is remembered.
