If quirky comedies are your jam, you’re in luck as two such shows with impressive pedigrees debut tonight.
Tuco & Bertie [Netflix]
For those jonesing for Bojack, it won’t be back until September, but you can get your fill of character designer Lisa Hanawalt’s creations on her first show — featuring Ali Wong & Tiffany Haddish voicing a pair of ex-roommate birds. The first episode is co-written by Raphael Bob-Waksberg, so it should have some of the BJ wit.
Dead To Me [Netflix]
This exploration of female friendship and dark secrets with a twist stars Christina Applegate and Linda Cartilni and from the creative team behind Vice.. that’s enough to get us interested.
Diners, Drive-Thrus & Dives [Food, 9p]
This week Guy Fieri is trying out some outrageous breakfast dishes from all over the country.
ALSO ON TAP TONIGHT:
- Hulu’s holiday fright show returns in time for Mother’s Day with Into The Dark: All That We Destroy, presumably dealing with the horror that everyone now says Happy Holidays instead of Merry Mother’s Day.
- Right at home in Adult Swim’s cavalcade of weirdness, Your Pretty Face Is Going To Hell chronicles the lives of the denizens of the most mundane sort of underworld. It returns for a fourth season late, late, late tonight.
- Gloria Estefan gets 1-2-3(-4) Gershwin Prizes (along with her Miami Sound Machine co-member and hub Emilio) for her lifetime of musical excellence. Actually she’s only going to get one and it’ll be broadcast on PBS under the title Emilio & Gloria Estefan: The Library Of Congress Gershwin Prize For Popular Song, but we thought it wise to reference one of those (semi-)popular songs.
- Netflix’s latest European import, Undercover, takes place on the border between the Netherlands and Belgium as a big-time ecstasy dealer finds himself threatened by a new presence, two secret agents.
