What to Watch: 12/03/2018

While many shows are on break for holidays, some aren’t, and there are some cool debuts on the margins.

Say Her Name: The Life and Death of Sandra Bland [HBO, 9p]
Of the way too many examples of how dangerous it is to be African American in the U.S., Sandra Bland’s case is especially sad and infuriating. This HBO documentary with a title taken from a social media movement to shine light on the atrocities against black women in America tells the story of the human life lost to police action and the institutional racism this country (founded on 3/5 personhood) just can’t shake.

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow [The CW, 9p]
Constantine has to confront his sketchy past that could have consequences for the entire team. Sara tries her best to get Ava and Rory to get along. Also, a killer doll.

  • Finding Joy is the latest in the eccentric-neurotic-navigating-the-world genre. It’s from the mind of Irish writer/actor Amy Huberman (Striking Out) and debuts tonight on Acorn TV. If that’s not enough, there’s a cool dog!
  • Provocative Canadian comedian Jon Dore throws his hat in the standups-taking-on-topics-hands-on genre with Big Questions, Huge Answers with Jon Dore on Comedy Central. Topics include cyberbullying (see hyperlink).
  • Freeform is giving us something whimsically named Pop Up Santa Holiday Special, and claims it will melt your heart (messy!), and that’s all we need to know, but check out the linked trailer if, unlike us, you don’t wish to be surprised.
  • The 80s-into-90s music grand parade continues — last night Garth Brooks led the party at Notre Dame, while tonight Christian pop/regular old pop legend Amy Grant hosts a Volunteer State-based, xmas-themed soiree with Amy Grant’s Tennessee Christmas on Hallmark.
