It’s the triumphant(?) return of Kevin Costner to a small screen he’s never regularly appeared on–but it takes place in the plains states, so he’s not entirely unfamiliar. There’s also a lot of thrillers and reality shows.
KATHERINE’S PICK:
Yellowstone [Paramount, 9p]
Taylor Sheridan, who people really like for some reason, brings us a new epic drama to the Paramount ranch, following the politics and internal drama of a family running the “largest contiguous ranch” in the West. It abuts Yellowstone (ya’ll know they’re shooting wolves that come on to their property) and a reservation. And yet… there seems to be only one Native American actor and no Latinos (it’s a large ranch, don’t tell me they’re all shoveling shit themselves).
FIONA’S PICK:
MasterChef [Fox, 8p]
The novelty of actually knowing the contestants has not worn off and I am LOVING this season. Last week the chefs worked with live crab to varying success. Gordon Ramsay used a blacklight to check for shell pieces which was very fun (though not for the chefs). Tonight it is the first team challenge for the top twenty! They are going to Anheuser-Busch and cooking for the brewmasters. Can both teams keep up with the demands of hungry brewers? I guess we’ll see.
BRAD’S PICK:
Full Frontal with Samantha Bee [TBS, 10p]
I’m sure Samantha Bee will have lots to say and lots of righteous anger to release on the subject of migrant children being separated from their parents on this week’s episod. Sam Bee, with so many feckless cunts around the government today we need your anger now more than ever.
ALSO ON TAP TONIGHT:
- It seems like so long ago and far away that reality star Ozzy Osbourne was a bat-biting metal star, but he’s well into the second decade of his latter career with his latest spin-off Ozzy & Jack’s World Detour on A&E (which has also undergone its own changes since the 1980s.
- NBC Summer replacement sci-fi series Reverie airs tonight at 10 and stars Dennis Haysbert. This has been a message from the Reverie Awareness System.
- Drummer and Ashford are in danger on The Expanse, a show which itself is no longer in danger as one of many shows which have received a reprieve on a new network this season.
