Weekend Box Office: Friday, June 15, 2018

Grab the kids, Incredibles 2 is here.

Loving Pablo stars Javier Bardem as the Colombian kingpin the media can’t get enough of. From 1982-1987 Escobar had an affair with journalist Virginia Vallejo, who is portrayed here by Penélope Cruz. (Cruz and Bardem are married, so that alone can not bode well for this film.) The film is based on Vallejo’s memoir, Loving Pablo, Hating Escobar.

The Incredibles 2 and its antiquated gender roles are back (with Pixar, they never leave). (Most of) the original voice cast is here, too: Craig T. Nelson, Holly Hunter, Sarah Vowell, and Samuel L. Jackson. (Dash is voiced by Huck Milner; Spencer Fox is 25 now.)

Eating Animals is a documentary about how America farms meat. Adapted from Jonathan Safran Foer’s book and narrated by Natalie Portman.

Superfly, a reimagined remake of 1972 film, stars Trevor Jackson, Michael Kenneth Williams, Jason Mitchell, Lex Scott Davis, and Jennifer Morrison. It doesn’t look good, but I can’t wait to see it.

Gabriel and the Mountain is a French drama about Brazilian backpacker Gabriel Buchmann, who backpacked through Africa (ooh, inspiring: an interloper inspired by Africa) only to die while hiking Mount Mulanje.

The Year Of Spectacular Men is a comedy about a woman who decides that because she’s single again she needs to find herself as a struggling actress in L.A. Directed by Lea Thompson.

Tag is a comedy starring Jeremy Renner, Ed Helms, Jake Johnson, Hannibal Burress, and Jon Hamm as a group of guys playing a very long game of tag.

China Salesman is a Chinese action film starring Mike Tyson and Steven Segal.

Straight Into A Storm is a documentary about Deer Tick.

Goliath, season two is on Amazon today:

Set It Up is on Netflix today:

Two assistants try to set up their demanding bosses so they can have some free time.

Lust Stories is a series of four short films about love in modern day India; the film is the follow-up to 2013’s ombay Talkies.

Maktub, from Netflix: “After surviving a bomb attack, two low-level mobsters in Jerusalem change their ways and set about making strangers’ Wailing Wall prayers come true.”

The Ranch: Part 5 comes out today. So does True: Magical Friends, True: Wonderful Wishes, Voltron: Legendary Defender.

Out June 17, Club de Cuervos Presenta: La Balada de Hugo Sánchez:

And on the 19th: Hannah Gadsby: Nanette
