This weekend we see a bunch of documentaries, but Ocean’s 8, too.
Believer is a Korean action film. Directed by Lee Hae-young, it’s a remake of the 2012 film Drug War. A lowly gang member conspires with a cop to bring down a drug lord.
Note: There’s also a documentary about LGBTQ youth in Utah, featuring Imagine Dragons’s Dan Reynolds, playing in select theaters, with the same name. It premieres June 25 on HBO.
Hotel Artemis stars Jodie Foster as a nurse working at a secret hotel for criminals. Sterling K. Brown, Brian Tyree Henry, Jenny Slate, Jeff Goldblum, and Zachary Quinto also star.
Westwood: Punk, Icon, Activist is a documentary about British fashion designer and punk icon Vivienne Westwood.
The Quest of Alain Ducasse is a documentary about the global restaurateur.
Nancy is a drama starring Andrea Riseborough, Steve Buscemi, Ann Dowd, and John Leguizamo. A woman believes she was kidnapped 30 years ago. Her conviction strengthens when she meets a couple whose daughter was kidnapped during the same time.
Hereditary stars Toni Collette as a bereaved daughter of an abusive woman who suffered dementia. She turns to seances to better understand the weird shit going on around her after her mother’s death.
Ocean’s 8 stars Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Mindy Kaling, Sarah Paulson, Awkwafina, with Rihanna and Helena Bonham Carter. Bullock is Danny Ocean’s sister (see, there’s your franchise connection) and plans a Met Ball heist with a bunch of bad ass women.
Won’t You Be My Neighbor? is a documentary about America’s neighbor, Fred Rogers.
Coming out this weekend on Netflix…
Alex Strangelove a gentle-ish comedy about a boy who might be gay! Pairs well with Love, Simon.
Ali’s Wedding, a comedy inspired by the life of actor, writer, and comedian Osamah Sami.
Sense8: The Series Finale
The Staircase, a true crime story Netflix won’t let lie. THE HUSBAND DID IT.
