What to Watch: 06/07/2018

Marvel adds yet another franchise to its TV crossover quill, while an actress who would probably rather forget she was once DC’s Batgirl returns with a promising new small-screen dramedy. Meanwhile, we tolerant Scholars will let the grifters grift, the drag queens drag, and the hockey players, um, hock? It’s not the perfect system…

Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger [Freeform, 8p]
Fans of the MCU are still dealing with what happened in Infinity War. This new Freeform show won’t have any answers but it does take place in the MCU so it will help tide us over. The teens-on-the-run drama is getting a good buzz with critics so the two hour premiere should have all the nerds taking.

American Woman [Paramount, 10p]
While the early buzz is less than overwhelming and the original show-runner (from one of my favorite shows even, 30 Rock) flew the coop mid-pre-production, I’d be willing to give a few weeks for a ’70s based show about fighting feminist moms featuring Alicia Silverstone and Mena Suvari to find its groove.

RuPaul’s Drag Race [VH1, 8p]
I was so distressed last week about Monét X Change’s elimination that I didn’t even notice that VH1 was taking a week off! The final five is back tonight to serve up some looks. I’m still quietly rooting against Aquaria, but not as intensely. I will just have to see what happens.

NHL Stanley Cup Finals Game 5 [NBC, 8p]
Still clutching cans of Natty Boh in front of the TV in Brooklyn. Good god, this is killing me. What if Vegas, in its inaugural season, wins? (That would, admittedly, be a great season. Isn’t that the plot to The Mighty Ducks II?)

  • The second season of the best reviewed show practically no one has heard of goes by the by tonight. Imposters airs on Bravo. It’s about a team of fancy grifters.
