Box Office Weekend, Friday, June 1, 2018

Apologies for a late start on this weekend’s trailers! It’s hard to stay inside in New York City when the winter’s thaw gives way to spring. Of course, that means a heatwave can’t be far behind, and the best place to cool down on a summer day is the theater! Here’s what’s new this weekend.

Adrift stars Sam Claflin and Shailene Woodley as an engaged couple who sail straight into a hurricane. Woodley’s character must sail the pair successfully to Hawaii to survive. A more truthful story would star just Woodley, as only one sailor survived the storm. It’s not clear if Claflin’s character will be a figment of the woman’s imagination.

Action Point stars Johnny Knoxville as the legally beleaguered owner of New Jersey’s Action Park (as least six people died), which closed in 1996 due to the severity of the class action suits against the negligent owners. But this is a Knoxville comedy, so it’s going to be stunts, explosions, blood, gore, and good family humor.

Upgrade is a horror-thriller starring Logan Marshall-Green as a man who regains the ability to walk via artificial intelligence after he is paralyzed in an accident.

American Animals stars Evan Peters, Barry Keoghan, Blake Jenner, Jared Abrahamson, Udo Kier, and Ann Dowd. Based on a true story, the drama is about a group of young men who steal priceless Audubon prints from Transylvania University.

Veere Di Wedding is an Indiana female-buddy comedy! Four friends reunite after ten years at a wedding.

Teen Titans GO! to the Movies is the first full-length feature for the Cartoon Network series Teen Titans GO!

Breath, based on the novel by Tim Winton, is written, directed, and stars Simon Baker. It is a coming-of-age tale about two young men growing up in a remote area of the Australian coast.

A Kid Like Jake stars Jim Parsons and Claire Danes as Brooklyn parents of a four-year-old who might be trans. Or might just like dresses.

Hooked is a crowd-funded drama about homeless LGBTQ youth.

Rodin stars Vincent London as the famed artist.

Busted! is a Korean variety show with a Clue-like plot: Korean pop stars are brought together to solve “crime.”

November 13: Attack on Paris is a three-part documentary series about the 2015 terrorist attacks.

Coming June 7, and streaming every Thursday:

Hyori’s Bed & Breakfast, season two.
