Superheroes, reality anti-heroes(?), and animated craziness highlight our Scholarly choices for this Monday–oh, and the heroes of the Olympics too. We got no beef with them.
American Dad! [TBS, 10p]
Seth MacFarlane’s other still living series comes back for its, would you believe it, 15th season tonight. Frankly, my two main reasons for settling on this has everything to do with the episode title–“Paranoid Frandroid”–for both making it clear it’s a Fran episode (um, yes!) and for its neat Radiohead reference.
Vanderpump Rules [Bravo, 9p]
I mean, it’s basically this or the Olympics, so if feeling inspired by global unity isn’t for you, can I recommend the famed American pastime of watching coke-addled PYTs screaming at each other? (Balm for the soul.)
ALSO ON TAP TONIGHT:
- Some dark thoughts emanating tonight from the minds behind The Alienist tonight on TNT as its leads explore man’s ability to end another life.
- Toxic waste tends to get lost in the mix of genuine dangers to civilization, so it’s good to see the deep dive documentary on HBO, Atomic Homefront, chronicling some of the dangerous sites on U.S. soil. This also makes me happy that Last Week Tonight with John Oliver comes back next weekend.
- If you do wish to be inspired by aforementioned global unity, the 2018 Winter Olympics continue tonight on NBC with some fan favorites–speed skating, luge, and figure skating. We’re holding out for the curling to heat up. We’re not kidding, btw.
- If you prefer the schadenfreude-y inspiration of potential cake wrecks, there’s a Kareem Abdul Jabbar-size wedding cake and a mysterious floating concoction on tonight’s Ridiculous Cakes on the Food Network. If you like these, also check out the excellent YouTube series How to Cake It.
