It’s a banner day for quirky comedy as a bunch of Screen Scholars-beloved shows return — from an anthology of soused stories to the avant-garde adventures of a down-on-his-luck Bakersfield clown. There’s also the second volume of a thrilling new superhero show and the latest installment of the MTV Real World universe that … may have contributed obliquely to our current dear leader.
Baskets [FX, 10p]
Zach Galifinakis returns as everybody’s favorite depressed jester for the the third season debut of Baskets on FX. Come for the clown stay for his mother, played to Emmy-level brilliance by Louis Anderson.
Drunk History [Comedy, 10p]
Tiffany Haddish may not have been able to announce her name this morning (or pronounce any name really), but she’ll have a better excuse tonight as part of the all-star line-up of storytellers for the fifth season debut of Derek Waters’ Drunk History on Comedy Central. Tonight’s episode fittingly focuses on historic heroines.
The Challenge: Vendetta [MTV, 9p]
The contestants plot against Britni and Brad. Good, Brad sucked 13 years ago on Real World: San Diego, and he sucks now.
ALSO ON TAP TONIGHT:
- The Parkers continue their life on the lam on TBS’ The Detour, this year winding up in Alaska, which gives Jason Jones the chance to grow a beard that would make a Brooklyn hipster blush.
- Back on Comedy Central, Natasha Leggero and Riki Lindholme return for a third season of Another Period as Lillian and Beatrice Bellacourt of the Newport Bellacourts continue to fecklessly navigate the late 19th Century.
