Weekend Box Office: October 28, 2016

Boo! A Madea Halloween crushed the box office last weekend with $28 million. We have only one big release this weekend, the latest entry in Dan Brown’s global conspiracy series, starring America’s aged dad, Tom Hanks.

Finding Babel is a documentary. It follows Andrei Malaev-Babel, the grandson of writer Isaac Babel. The elder Babel was executed by the Communist Party of Soviet Russia in 1940, and his grandson travels the world in pursuit of his grandfather’s story.

Jack’s Apocalypse is a thriller about a former politician (but current addict) trying to keep his family alive despite the apocalypse.

Ae Dil Hai Mushkil is an Indian-Hindi romantic drama. It stars Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.

Shivaay is an Indian action thriller about a mountaineer trying to protect his family.

The Unspoken is a horror film. A house is undisturbed for 17 years, following a family’s disappearance. But a new family moves in…

Gimme Danger is a Jim Jarmusch documentary about the Stooges!

Recovery is a thriller about a high school senior tricked into entering a house of horrors through the Find My Phone app.

Inferno is the adaptation of the 2013 Dan Brown book of the same name. Tom Hanks, Felicity Jones, Irrfan Khan, and Ben Foster star; Ron Howard directs. Our editor Navani can’t wait.

Mr. Donkey is a “broad yet insightful” Chinese comedy. Adapted from the play of the same name, a small town registers a donkey as a teacher to skim funds from a charity.
