Weekend Box Office: July 1, 2016

As expected, Finding Dory crushed the box office last weekend with $72.9 million. This was a drop from its opening weekend, with a take of $135 million. Dory will probably drown the competitors this weekend, too.

Life, Animated is a documentary about Owen Suskind, an autistic boy who was able to communicate with his family through Disney films.

The Innocents is a French-Polish-Belgian drama about a French doctor sent to aid a group of pregnant nuns in 1945.

Satanic stars Sarah Hyland and Justin Chon as two of four friends enjoying Satanic Tourism in LA (you know what, count me in!) before heading to Coachella. Of course, things quickly go South at the haunted hotel which is why LAist hasn’t offered me a Satanic Tour, yet. I guess the ghosts of Spahn Ranch was busy torturing a different group of Millennials?

Our Kind of Traitor stars Ewan McGregor and Naomie Harris as a couple on vacation caught between the Russian Mob and the British Secret Service. (A character on IMdB is credited as “Blued Eyed Killer!”)

Marauders stars Bruce Willis, Dave Bautista, and Christopher Meloni. A bank heist leads the FBI into the crossfires of several complex and complicated heists.

Swiss Army Man stars Paul Dano as a suicidal man marooned on an island who uses a flatulent, talking corpse (Daniel Radcliffe) as a means of escape.

The Purge: Election Year is the third installment of The Purge franchise. A survivor of a previous year’s Purge is now a politician, desperate to stop the annual night of crime that destroyed her family.

The BFG is an animated adaptation of Road Dahl’s beloved novel.

The Legend of Tarzan stars digital animals, Alexander Skarsgård, and Margot Robbie in this live-action take on Tarzan, from Warner Bros.

Roseanne for President! is a documentary about Roseanne Barr and her attempt to run for President.

Carnage Park is a ’70s horror homage about two failed criminals who find themselves being hunted by a deranged Vietnam veteran.
