Monday’s Best Reviewed: Better Call Saul

Line up the usual suspects this Tuesday morning for Monday night’s best in show, as Better Call Saul wins out over an also well-received episode of critical fave Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, as both ramp up to dueling finales next week. It’s been a rollercoaster ride for the first season of Syfy’s adaptation of Lev Grossman’s beloved series of books, but The Magicians apparently nails the landing in a finale that sets up an intriguing (and already scheduled) second season. It’s mostly happy thoughts last night, as even weekly reviewers’ whipping boy, Gotham, earns decent write-ups (but still takes up the rear).

Monday, April 10th’s Best: Better Call Saul (9.8/10)

0412saulJimmy and Mike face unexpected consequences to their seemingly foolproof schemes, while Kim gets inexorably wrapped-up in the subterfuge on a darkly lovely Saul that even ties in a brilliant reference to nobody’s poet, Pina Colada-liking singer/songwriter Rupert Holmes. Kenny Herzog of Vulture crowns it the “best episode of the year so far.” IGN’s Terri Schwartz awards it “amazing” and credits the “excellent pacing and direction and some truly great payoff for ongoing storylines.”
