It’s been known for over a month that Tituss Burgess (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt‘s Titus Andromedon) planned to turn vintner and launch a wine line based on his signature moment from the breakout character that won him an Emmy nom.
You can buy Pinot by Tituss Burgess, a 2014 Santa Barbara vintage, here, and at select stores in the NYC/NJ area. While it may seem like a gimmick drawn from a sung catch phrase, there is assuredly something deeper going on as this is not the first time one of his characters has hawked his own line of wines on a Tina Fey-penned show, albeit last time the vino was confined to fiction.
On 30 Rock, Burgess appeared as D’Fwan, the flamboyant hairdresser for Tracy Jordan’s wife Angie. D’Fwan was a major player in a pair of faux-reality show episodes centered around Angie. In the second one, “Queen of Jordan 2: Mystery of the Phantom Pooper,” as Jack Donaghy (Alec Baldwin) and his mother-in-law (Mary Steenburgen) are awkwardly trying to cover up feelings, he offers her wine. However, contractual obligations dictate it must be D’Fwine, D’Fwan’s vanity line.
In D’Fwine, D’fwtruth!
The first season of Unbreakable Kimmy Scmidt is alive, dammit! on Netflix, and the second season will drop this Friday, April 15.
You can find all seven seasons of 30 Rock on Netflix, also.
