What to Watch: 03/02/2016

This Wednesday is all about the new, as we have new characters from the actors who brought you such classic television characters as Omar Little, Joe Carroll, and Virginia Slim Chance.

KATHERINE’S PICK:
Hap and Leonard [Sundance, 10p]
Based on the novels of Joe Lansdale and starring James Purefoy and Michael Kenneth Williams as the titular characters (and with Christina Hendricks!), this Southern drama (which looks hysterical) follows two friends working for a private investigator in East Texas.

NAVANI’S PICK:
Hap and Leonard [Sundance, 10p]
This quirky comedic crime drama featuring an oddball cast looks like a good time.

JASON’S PICK:
The Real O’Neals [ABC, 8:30p]
It’s with mixed levels of anticipation that I welcome The Real O’Neals. Its description makes it sound appealingly quirky and edgy, while its promos look ghastly and unoriginal. But Martha Plimpton is the family’s matriarch, so there’s some hope.

ALSO ON TAP TONIGHT:

  • Astronaut Scott Kelly (part of a pair of astronaut twins) spent well over 300 days launched into the atmosphere, a time documented by PBS in tonight’s A Year in Space
  • Did you hear about the Morgan? Criminal Minds‘ heart throb investigator was nabbed by mysterious masked men at the end of last week’s episode, so now BAU takes on the search. On CBSsssss.
  • ABC’s gripping, gritty American Crime has been at or near the top of every one of our Wednesday round-ups in the short time we’ve been doing the feature. Its penultimate episode should fare no different.
